How can I help?

By becoming an Advocate for Independence, you can provide us with the means to provide individuals and families in the area with the services they need to ensure they are able to meet their personal goals in life. For only $20.00 a month, you can be an important part of helping them reach their full potential. Contact us for information on becoming an Advocate for Independence with Henderson Haven. A one-time donation would also be greatly appreciated, and would go far in making a difference in the life of someone who needs our services. Contact us for information, or simply use the Pay Pal link below to make a donation now.

Thank you for your help! Feel secure in knowing that your money is being used right here in northeast Florida, helping others reach their goals in life. We would love to send you information on upcoming fundraising and other events, where you can meet us in person and discuss how you can help with our efforts. Thank you for your interest in Henderson Haven, Inc. We look forward to hearing from you and to sharing our dream of independence for everyone.

Doesn’t the State pay for services provided to the developmentally disabled?

While it’s true that the majority of service providers receive compensation, it doesn’t begin to fulfill the need. At Henderson Haven, we want to make sure EVERYONE in need is able to receive special services. Currently, there is a five-year waiting period to receive med waiver funds from the State. There are more disabled people born in the State each day than are added to the program each year. Henderson Haven uses private donations to provide services on a sliding fee scale for those not yet eligible for the med waiver program. These services range from providing daily care and training, to a night of care so mom and dad can have an evening out. We feel it’s important that everyone in Florida is able to get the help they need, when they need it.

What else will my money do?

A part of creativity in allowing independence comes in the form of adaptive equipment. At Henderson Haven, we not only utilize commercial equipment available, we create our own devices, designed specifically for the individual’s needs. We don’t just provide devices for training; in most cases, they are given to the individual. Your donations help us to make sure people are able to reach their full potential in life, by providing equipment needed to give that extra help. We want the progress made in our programs to last a lifetime, regardless of location or other changes in personal situations.

Do you use any of the funds yourself?

We do have plans for using donations and grants to help us grow and provide additional services in the area. Some of these plans include; vehicles for transportation, a mobile multi-sensory unit, and an emergency respite bed and breakfast.  We will have special fundraising events in the future for these needed improvements. If you would like more information, we would be glad to talk with you about what you or your organization can do to contribute.
